Course Content

This bricklaying course includes:

  • Introduction to bricklaying tools and their use
  • Gauging and mixing mortars
  • Trowel techniques and laying bed joints
  • Buttering brick joints
  • Building corners – plumb and level
  • Laying to the line
  • Pointing techniques
  • English and Flemish bond – corner and walling
  • Brick and block cavity walls
  • Piers
  • Raking cuts
  • Air bricks, lintels, wall ties


A mostly practical bricklaying course designed for home or site knowledge.


Practical work is assessed throughout the course.

No prior skills are required, only a willingness to learn and take part in the course activities.
