This introduction to hard landscaping includes:

  • Health and safety
  • Safe use of equipment
  • Planning a task
  • Foundations
  • Drainage
  • Paving slabs
  • Basic brickwork
  • Decorative brickwork
  • Additional detail (depending upon course requests) may include:
    • Concrete pads
    • Kerbs and paving
    • Hollow piers
  • Tips and tricks of the trade




No formal assessment but you will get feedback on your practical skills.

Homework / Private Study Required


Pre-Course Preparation

Whilst there is no required pre-course preparation, to get the most from this course, you should have an idea of a small project you would like to complete, and your tutor will try to tailor your practical tasks towards this project.

Project examples might include:

  • Barbecue area
  • Garden path
  • Patio
  • Raised flower bed

This course is aimed at developing skills for your personal use. Whilst it does not aim to prepare you for a career in hard landscaping, the basic skills you will develop could form a valuable foundation for this type of career.
