Pledging Support through the Armed Forces Covenant

On 10th February 2014, MKC Training signed up to a voluntary pledge to uphold the principles of the Armed Forces. Over five years later, this public commitment remains a foundation principle for the organisation. It demonstrates support for the armed forces community and has been formally registered with the Ministry of Defence.

The Armed Forces Covenant represents a promise by the nation that those who serve or have served, and their families, are treated fairly. All 407 local authorities in mainland Great Britain and 4 Northern Ireland councils have pledged to uphold the Armed Forces Covenant. To date over 4,000 organisations have signed the covenant, including businesses and charities.

The covenant focuses on helping members of the armed forces community, including support in a number of areas including:

  • education and family well-being
  • having a home
  • starting a new career
  • access to healthcare
  • financial assistance
  • discounted services

The pledge covers the provision of services to serving personnel, service leavers, veterans, and their families.

We have a long relationship providing specialised construction and trades training for the Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME)" comments Joe McManus, Head of Business Development for MKC Training.
These strong links make it appropriate for us to engage fully with all areas of the Armed Forces and continuously reflect our commitment to this covenant.”

The two guiding principles of all armed forces covenants are to ensure that no member of the armed forces community faces ‘disadvantage in the provision of public and commercial services compared to any other citizen’, and to open up the option for special treatment where appropriate, specifically for the injured or bereaved.

The MKC Training pledge also confirms the company’s support for employees who choose to be members of the Reserve forces, including accommodating their training and deployment where possible.
